Silas backed away from the bell, tripping over his equipment tripod and tumbling onto the stone floor. The sound was deafening, yet the silver bell remained completely motionless on its beam, proving that the acoustic source was originating from inside Silas’s own auditory cortex. Flashes of light exploded behind his eyelids—memories that were not his own, depicting shipwrecks, desperate struggles in freezing water, and the final, agonizing moments of sailors calling out names into the dark abyss. He clamped his hands over his ears, but the metallic ringing only intensified, threatening to rupture his eardrums from the inside out.
The Silent Town
Desperate for escape, Silas crawled toward the spiral staircase and began his frantic descent toward the village, stumbling blindly down the twisting stone steps. When he burst through the cathedral doors into the village square, he found an apocalyptic scene: every resident of Mistveil stood frozen in place like statues, their mouths agape in eternal, silent screams. Not a single sound emanated from the village—no wind, no crashing waves, no footsteps on the cobblestones. The entire island had been locked within an acoustic vacuum zone generated by the silver bell’s initial silent strike. Silas tried to scream for help, but his voice was swallowed instantly by the heavy, suffocating atmosphere, leaving him utterly isolated in a world drained of all auditory expression.
