The Dream-Architect's Blueprint
Episode 2: The Locked Room
The snapping of the blueprint triggered a localized trapdoor beneath Silas’s boots, plunging him downward. He fell through layers of surreal imagery—flying clocks, melting stairs—before landing softly on a Persian rug. He found himself standing inside a locked room that mirrored his own childhood study down to the smallest detail. The door was barred from the outside with heavy iron chains glowing with quarantine energy signatures. Silas inspected the walls, tapping the wainscoting with his architectural stylus to locate the hidden exit seam. According to dream physics, a locked room could only be opened by redefining its conceptual perimeter boundaries. He drew a new doorway onto the wooden wall using glowing blue digital ink from his stylus tip. With a soft chime, the painted doorway solidified into a real, operable wooden door that swung open. Stepping through the threshold, he re-entered the sub-basement vault, surprising the masked intruder who was still working. The intruder dropped his drafting tools and bolted toward a shimmering exit portal in the corner of the room. Silas lunged forward, managing to grab a scrap of fabric from the intruder’s coat before he vanished.
Blueprints of Sleep
Examining the scrap of fabric under the vault’s ambient light, Silas identified a high-grade synthetic corporate weave. The weave belonged exclusively to the Somnus Corporation, a powerful syndicate developing commercial dream-control software. They were attempting to hijack civilian subconscious realms to harvest emotional data and cognitive processing power. Silas secured the sub-basement vault with heavy encryption wards, preventing further unauthorized edits to the library. He ascended back to the upper architectural studio, where his client, a weary historian named Clara, rested. Clara woke up slowly from her slumber, rubbing her eyes as the chaotic dream architecture stabilized around them. “I had the strangest nightmare of falling through a collapsing library, Silas,” Clara murmured sleepily. “You were safe the whole time, Clara; the structural hazard has been neutralized,” Silas reassured her gently. However, as he reviewed her neural telemetry graphs, he noticed a lingering backdoor trojan embedded in her cortex. The Somnus Corporation wasn’t finished with her yet; they had planted a deeper trigger inside her core memory.
