Episode 2: The Heirloom Trail

Determined to trace the origin of the silicone mold, Alistair interrogated the estate staff in the servants’ hall, accompanied by Lady Evelyn. The butler, an elderly man named Henderson who had served the family for forty years, maintained a stoic silence while the junior maids whispered nervously among themselves. “None of us left our quarters last night, sir. We were all asleep when the storm hit,” Henderson insisted smoothly. However, Alistair noticed that the footman, a young man named Julian, had fresh red clay caked around the soles of his polished dress shoes—the exact same red clay found near the estate’s private greenhouse. Excusing himself, Alistair made his way down the gravel path toward the Victorian greenhouse through the chilly drizzle. Inside the steamy, plant-filled structure, the air was heavy with the scent of damp earth and blossoming orchids. Hidden beneath a wooden potting bench, Alistair discovered a freshly dug hole in the soil containing a discarded leather tool pouch. Inside the pouch rested a specialized optical scanner and a micro-torch used for precision gem extraction. But before Alistair could retrieve the pouch, a heavy shadow fell across the greenhouse entrance, blocking out the pale moonlight. He spun around to find Julian the footman standing in the doorway, blocking his exit with a heavy iron pruning shear in his hand.

The Antique Shop

“You shouldn’t be snooping where you don’t belong, Mr. Thorne,” Julian warned, his voice dangerously calm as he stepped further into the greenhouse. Alistair held his ground, keeping his hands visible while subtly reaching for his heavy brass pocket compass. “The police are already analyzing the silicone mold from the vault, Julian. You won’t make it off the estate grounds with the amber,” Alistair bluffed smoothly. Julian smiled bitterly, shaking his head. “I don’t have the amber. I was hired to plant the decoy and disable the cameras by someone much higher up in this household.” Before Alistair could press for a name, a gunshot shattered the glass roof of the greenhouse, raining razor-sharp shards of glass across the tile floor. Julian ducked behind a brick pillar, scrambling out through the rear service exit into the dark woods. Alistair flattened himself against the potting bench, heart pounding as a second shot ricocheted off a metal pipe nearby. Realizing he was being targeted by an armed professional, Alistair crawled through the broken rear window, plunging into the muddy underbrush of the moor. He sprinted through the dense fog until he reached his parked car on the estate access road, locking himself safely inside. He knew the true mastermind was still inside the manor, orchestrating the deception from the shadows.
