The Clock of Turning Tides
Episode 3: Receding Shores
The silver fog reached the lantern room windows, pressing against the glass with solid physical force and obscuring the outside world entirely in a shimmering, reflective glare. Within the room, Julian’s physical appearance began to shift: the gray in his hair receded into rich brown, the lines on his face smoothed out, and his heavy work jacket transformed into the vintage wool coat he had worn years earlier when he first arrived in town. The clock gears clicked faster, dragging his personal timeline backward alongside the chronological rollback of the entire coastline.
Dry Harbors
Julian stumbled toward the iron spiral staircase, desperate to escape the turning tower and reach the ground before his timeline dissolved completely into infancy. He descended the steps at a frantic pace, but every landing he passed showed a different decade of the lighthouse’s history: the nineteen-fifties with its peeling wallpaper and radio broadcasts, the nineteen-twenties with its gas lamps and oilcloths, and the Victorian era with its heavy velvet drapes and flickering candles. The doors on each landing were locked tight, bearing brass plaques inscribed with the dates of his own future years that had not yet occurred.
