Episode 3: The Bakery Order

Word of the coastal mill’s reactivation and exceptional stone-ground flour spread quickly across the regional food network. A prominent organic bakery in the provincial capital placed a massive weekly recurring order for whole-wheat flour. Caleb was initially overwhelmed by the commercial scale of the order, fearing their historic mill couldn’t keep pace. Maya, however, optimized the grain-feeding hopper and installed an automated bagging chute to streamline packaging operations. Working together seamlessly, they milled, sifted, and bagged hundreds of pounds of flour to meet the strict deadline. A local transport truck arrived on Friday morning, loading pallets of branded “Tide-Mill Flour” for city delivery. “We just filled our first major commercial contract in twenty years,” Caleb marveled, watching the truck depart. Maya smiled, adjusting her clipboard as she calculated their profitable weekly revenue margins. The bakery order transformed the historic mill from a sentimental hobby into a thriving, self-sustaining business enterprise.

 The River Current

Spring storms brought surging river currents and high ocean tides, creating turbulent mixing zones around the mill foundations. The extreme turbulence tested the newly restored waterwheel and reinforced stone piers to their absolute limits. Caleb and Maya monitored the structural strain gauges and water level monitors from the mill’s control room. As massive tidal bores pushed upstream against the river current, the waterwheel spun at record rotational velocity. Maya adjusted the emergency spillway gates, regulating the water volume to prevent over-revving and mechanical damage. Caleb inspected the basement gear housing, ensuring the wooden trundle gears meshed smoothly under the heavy torque load. For six hours, the coastal mill battled the raging natural elements with flawless mechanical grace and resilience. When the storm finally subsided, the mill stood completely undamaged, humming quietly in the afternoon sun. The river current had tested their engineering work and proven its absolute invincibility.
