The Live Feed
Episode 5: Ticking Clock
Toby rushed past the dissipating fog into the inner vault chamber, sweeping his flashlight beam across the cramped, frost-lined interior space. In the center of the room sat an old office chair tied to a steel support pillar, but the chair was completely empty save for an automated audio playback device looping a pre-recorded tape of heavy breathing. There was no captive, no dying partner, and no oxygen timer—just a cruel, elaborate trap designed to lure him into an isolated building on a freezing night. A loud mechanical click echoed from the doorway behind him, followed by the heavy thud of the exterior vault door slamming shut under the force of an automated timer spring. Toby spun around and threw his weight against the inside of the door, but the heavy locking pins had dropped irrevocably into place, sealing him airtight inside the freezing chamber. On the wall beside the door, a small digital display blinked to life, displaying an unyielding countdown timer starting precisely at 02:00:00. The live feed had transferred its destination, and Toby realized with chilling certainty that he had just stepped into his own trap.
The Live Feed
Back in the attic studio across the city, the vintage vacuum-tube transmitter clicked softly as it switched output channels, initiating a fresh broadcast stream. The audio monitors hummed to life, filling the empty room with the slow, rhythmic sound of heavy breathing captured inside a confined, freezing space. On the workstation screen, a new digital audio file began recording automatically, logging every second of the countdown as it ticked steadily toward zero. The studio was silent, save for the steady amber glow of the vacuum tubes pulsing rhythmically in the dark, broadcasting the live feed out into the silent night.
