Episode 4: The Blind Turn

Reaching a dead end blocked by a massive, floor-to-ceiling antique mirror, Julian spun around to find his path cut off by the double, who now stood only inches away from him. The entity raised its right hand and pressed its palm against Julian’s chest, not with violence, but with a firm, absolute authority. Julian felt his breath freeze in his lungs as his physical form began to merge with the glass surface, his skin turning smooth and reflective like polished silver. Through the mirror, he could see his physical body sitting motionless on the stool in the central workshop, holding the polishing cloth frozen in mid-air while his eyes stared blankly ahead with no spark of life remaining.

 Shattered Panes

With a final burst of adrenaline, Julian lunged forward, smashing his shoulder directly into the antique mirror before him. The glass shattered with a deafening, bell-like crash, sending thousands of silvered fragments cascading across the floor. The labyrinth around him dissolved into a chaotic swirl of light and shadow as the entire optical loop collapsed inward. Julian tumbled headfirst through the breaking glass, falling out of the reflective void and crashing onto the hardwood floor of the central workshop in Veridith Manor. He lay gasping for breath on the dusty floorboards, surrounded by ordinary, unbroken antique mirrors that reflected only the quiet, empty room under the morning sun.
