Episode 1: The Dry Shore
Marine biologist Dr. Alistair Vance stood on the windswept wooden pier of Raven’s Cove, staring in utter disbelief at the ocean before him. It was precisely midnight—the exact moment of the spring high tide that should have submerged the wooden pylons in ten feet of seawater. Instead, the seabed was completely exposed, a barren expanse of wet sand and exposed rocks stretching out half a mile into the black bay. The entire ocean had mysteriously receded, draining away as if pulled through a colossal invisible plug in the ocean floor. Alistair adjusted his headlamp, stepping down from the pier onto the damp, unfamiliar seabed where crabs scuttled frantically among stranded fish and rotting kelp. His handheld sonar device shrieked with erratic digital interference, picking up a massive metallic resonance echoing from deep beneath the crust of the seabed. Walking out toward the center of the receding bay, he discovered a colossal circular iron hatch measuring forty feet in diameter, embedded flush into the bedrock. Etched into the rusted metal surface was a strange engineering insignia belonging to a secretive oceanic research corporation that had supposedly gone bankrupt fifty years ago. Before Alistair could examine the locking mechanism, a loud grinding roar echoed through the earth beneath his boots as seawater began rushing back into the bay in a terrifying, twenty-foot wall of a tidal surge.
The Empty Warehouse
Alistair sprinted across the darkening seabed, his lungs burning as the roaring wall of water raced toward him with terrifying speed. He lunged upward, catching the lower rung of the wooden pier ladder just as the icy surge slammed against the pylons below, churning the water into a violent white froth. Pulling himself up to safety, he caught his breath and looked back out across the bay; the tide had instantly returned to its normal level, covering the mysterious iron hatch beneath forty feet of dark, swirling ocean water. The following morning, Alistair visited the harbor master’s office to examine historical tidal records, only to find the municipal archives ransacked and the harbor master bound and gagged in the back room. Freeing the terrified harbor master, Alistair learned that a corporate syndicate had been secretly pumping millions of gallons of seawater into a subterranean aquifer system beneath the coast to unearth something buried on the ocean floor. Alistair knew he had to infiltrate the abandoned corporate warehouse on the cliff edge before the syndicate covered their tracks permanently.
