The Fog of Amber Street
Episode 5: Lifting Haze
Julian crashed onto the wooden floorboards of the parlor, gasping for breath as the heavy smell of tobacco and wax filled his lungs. The room around him was warm, vibrant, and fully alive; the grandfather clock in the corner ticked normally, the fireplace crackled with burning logs, and his smartphone on the side table buzzed with a missed call notification. He scrambled to his feet and ran to the front window, peering out through the glass onto Amber Street below. The amber fog had vanished entirely, replaced by a normal, crisp autumn evening under a clear, star-lit sky.
Clear Morning
The next morning, municipal street crews cleared fallen leaves from Amber Street under bright, clear sunlight, finding nothing unusual about the quiet neighborhood. Julian Vance sat at his desk in the townhouse, writing a detailed historical account of the previous night’s temporal anomaly in his journal. As he dotted the final period of his manuscript, a single speck of glowing amber dust drifted down from the ceiling rafters, settling quietly onto the paper before dissolving into nothingness.
